Well, its the grains, particularly wheat, that we want to avoid. If you consumption is modest, as it seems to be, the little bit is not harming you and your blood test and weight loss are the proof.

I have prediabetes and have decided to eliminate as much or all grain as possible including potato, rice, corn and its syrup, wheat, etc. Metformin fixed my numbers and I lost about 12 lbs. Now avoiding grains, dropped another 8. Will check my numbers early May.

I always had high triglycerides, high LDL, below 40 HDL, and high uric acid. So carbs are poison to me, basically. Grew up on red beans and rice, New Orleans Po Boys, etc.

I eat a 1/2 cup of oatmeal 3-4 times a week and I am trying not to sweeten it at all, using lots of heart healthy, sugar-controlling cinnamon and a big slab of butter.
