"Hashimoto's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was on Tuesday reported to be considering proposing the creation of an Asian currency unit (ACU) and the future issue of ACU-denominated bonds. Jiji news agency said the proposed ACU would be similar to the European currency unit, a composite currency based on a basket of national units. LDP politicians were said to be floating the ACU idea as Asia struggled to shake off the effects of its financial crisis, which has cut the value of many regional currencies. The need by Asian nations to buy dollars to repay loans has been blamed as one cause for the decline in the value of regional currencies." biz.yahoo.com
