I recall it affecting a public announcement but not the investigation.
I don't see dishonesty in that. I see a surfeit of honesty. And massive hubris. But where is the dishonesty?

If it makes her an "illegitimate president" isn't his problem

Like I said, hubris.

And trying to make Trump "illegitimate" never seemed to bother him.

Huh? When and how did he do that?
