Ethnic America didn't have a bent. I loaned my copy to a handful of people who appreciated it. One black colleague and I spent a lot of time discussing it, particularly Sowell's ability to relate to and appreciate the variations among the European immigrants who were its subject. They didn't "all look alike." So, I became a fan. And my colleague became a fan, pursuing other works by him. I don't think the book deserved a Nobel. <g> But he produced at least one thing of value.

I've seen a number of thoughtful pieces by him. He's politically incorrect but I think straightforward, honest, and respectful. These days, those qualities are a blessing, regardless on content.

Something is a little off...

Probably the race/worldview mismatch.
