Probably the race/worldview mismatch.
I'd say that is the fundamental thing he has going FOR him. It appears to be his shtick that made him popular within a certain segment. It appears to be that is about all he has, or more correctly had, as he is well into the emeritus range.
What I do find a bit interesting in that regard, and I'm curious what you think, and this relates to my original question to Tim (who doesn't find such things of interest): He had a fairly distinguished career in terms of the Universities he lectured at, and the ones he attended, but his academic output as I noted, seems non-existent. So the question comes to mind as to whether, just like a certain prominent African-American in the Trump admin, this guy who bashed affirmative action, didn't perhaps benefit from it quite a bit himself. What do you think?
BTW, his teaching career spanned from about '62 as an Inst to '80 as a full Prof at UCLA. From then he has been a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Inst, which of course seems to fit him more as an ideological "think tank" rather than a real academic research institution. |
