Fred,
DVD in Europe is a mishandled baby somehow due to this nutty MPEG-2 decision instead of AC-3 layer which is used in US/Japan. Then there's the Divx technology which equals "total control" of User activities on behalf of holliwood, somewhat no privacy advocate (which I am) likes. I guess DVD will be modified to support AC-3 and MPEG-2 optionally internationally, which would make good sense. This artificial country/region specific standard goes totally against all current convergence/globalization attempts. Same goes to "regional code", which is a laughable lock against parallel imports...

The daughter card design is ok, is news to me. However I feel it's more like a feature of upcoming video cards' chipsets: (look to ATI of Canada. They have DVD acceleration built into their newest Rage pro chipset design. Also Trident of the US-TRID already features DVD acceleration. Cirrus also has a solution...

best wishes
CROSSY
