The great recession hit older workers disproportionally. Once you are out of work long enough nobody will hire you. I suspect these folks make up the majority of ones out of labor force. In part you have "information age" with companies like Amazon stealing business from brick and mortar retailers. I tend to disagree on manufacturing. Germany finds a way for this sector to coexist and strive. Repeated bailouts favor financialization of the economy, or making money from rising asset prices rather than business itself. It is certainly true in Crypto land. I am sure even Amazon is winning business in a large part because they can take advantage of stratospheric valuations to expand more rapidly.
