He had the legal right to receive his money if he left the company. Instead he moves from position to another and still gets paid. But what better way to send some confidence to the shareholders and the market by taking his compensation in stock options? Or taking a nominal salary and the rest in options?
What AE and the BOD did is just a screw job to the shareholdaers. My Grandpa always said if you want to see someone’s future behaviour look to their past......in my mind AE and the BOD proves this point.
