QUANTUM EFFECT DESIGN ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH AEROFLEX, LEADING
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manufacturer of Multi-Chip Modules

Agreement Gives Aeroflex Exclusive QED Support in the Satellite,
Industrial
and Defense Markets

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Effect
Design, Inc. (QED), a leading supplier of high-end embedded
microprocessor solutions, announced it has signed an agreement with the
Aeroflex Circuit Technology Division (ACT) of Aeroflex Incorporated,
based in Plainview, New York. Under this agreement, QED will provide
exclusive support for ACT's advanced microprocessor Multi-Chip Modules
(MCMs) for airborne, satellite, shipboard and ground-based
communication systems. The three-year agreement has a minimum value of
$3 million.

ACT will use QED's full line of high-performance, cost-effective
embedded MIPS(R) microprocessors as the foundation for its advanced MCM
product line that includes standard products as well as
customer-specified designs. QED will provide technical support to ACT
as well as engineering support to ACT customers.

"We began our search at ground zero and looked closely at all
microprocessor architectures and vendors, but only QED and its MIPS
microprocessor family had the right mix of performance, cost,
compatibility and support, as well as an impressive technology
roadmap," said John Buyko, Aeroflex vice president of sales and
marketing. "We knew QED's technology was excellent, since we have used
MIPS microprocessors, including the R4700, so we were glad to obtain an
exclusive agreement with them. This agreement provides us a strong
technology edge in the marketplace now and in the future."

"We are very excited about our partnership with Aeroflex because it
enables us to penetrate a new market and support an established market
leader," said Tom Riordan, QED president and CEO. "This agreement also
legitimizes our position as a high-quality fabless semiconductor vendor
that can deliver the right products to a wide range of customers in the
embedded microprocessor market."
