KLAC trading range 34-44 since late November. Got in at 34.3 yesterday, guessing that the December lows would hold. MOT does worse than expected, and the semi-equips go up. Intel just posted better than expected, so I guess we'll keep going up. I'll have a hard decision to make when we hit 43: take my quick 25% gain now, or wait till KLAC hits 100 in 1999. Right now, I think we have not yet hit the final bottom, there is more bad news to come, and at best we'll be in a trading range for about 6 months. Everyone is saying:" the semi-equips, and especially AMAT and KLAC, are great buys, and will do well long-term. But the next _____ will be bad, so don't buy yet." Fill in the blank with anything from 12 minutes to 12 months. Noone thinks the downturn will last into 1999. When everyone starts piling in, the price will spike upward very abruptly.
