This is just plain silly. Chinese regulators regulate, they don't make investments. In any case, CFIUS rejected Chinese participation with WDC - and for similar reasons the Japanese equivalent would not allow a sale to the Chinese. The Chinese are not stupid, and know they cannot purchase this technology.

Everyone one knows that doing a deal in China involves greasing hands, and the Chinese are just looking for extra grease. They reject virtually every deal until sufficiently motivated by grease, and there is nothing special about this situation.
