IMHO, the future is very bright for cost containment in both healthcare and caring for the aged: Automation/AI. The idea of spending years cramming knowledge into a person's head only to have them spend their working days retrieving rather poorly, said knowledge while charging high prices for doing so is nuts. I wish Obama had as part of the ACA done a challenge to develop an AI system that could beat 99.99% of GPs at diagnosing 99.99% of what walks in the door at regular clinics within 5 years of when the ACA went into effect.
