FWA/BWA up 30% in 2018. AT&T mocks mmWave. VZ cannot sell 5G CPE until 2019. Odd when VZ has 5G CBRS built into all of its SmartHub devices waiting for software updates to release it, maybe with plug-in antenna kits for free.

?Arris is going to beat BigRed to the 5G market with its own CBRS plug-in modules? OMG! :sheesh: :smh:

AT&T on mmWave "it's not as compelling yet"
This indicates that an unnamed subsidy-providing ODM client has pushed BigRed to build mmWave despite the obvious business case failure.

AT&T CFO throws shade on Verizon’s fixed 5G plans by Mike Dano | Apr 25, 2018... said AT&T’s CFO John Stephens. “We're not as excited about the business case—it's not as compelling yet, for us, as it may be for some.” Those comments are noteworthy considering fixed wireless internet service is the first major use case that Verizon plans to deploy later this year when it launches 5G services using its propriety V5GTF network technology... Indeed, Verizon’s CFO Matt Ellis reiterated the company’s argument that fixed is just one 5G application the carrier is pursuing. “We can launch 5G mobility on our existing assets,” Ellis said, noting that Verizon won’t need to purchase additional spectrum to offer mobile 5G services. “We are comfortable that we can launch 5G mobility with the assets that we have. 5G mobility will be initially very much heavily focused on urban areas, and we have the assets in place there and we will be ready to launch as soon as the OEMs have handsets available with 5G chipsets in them.”..

"We expect to be getting the CPE [customer premises equipment], based on the NR standard, probably next year," Ellis said on the call... "I don't see us having a massive acceleration in capex," Ellis said. "This is not the same thing as when we adopted 4G and went from CDMA to LTE ... This is a very different rollout.".. The 5G mobile rollout will be "very much heavily focused on urban areas," initially, Ellis said...
