<,Japan has few murders but a lot of suicides. Its different than the US in many ways.

Comparing more similar entities like US states with different laws or European countries with different laws, there is no statistically significant trend between gun control and murder rates. Depending on exactly what criteria you look at you can get a very small "more guns less murder" result, or a very small "more guns more murder" result but neither strong enough to be statistically significant.

Same with Australia.

Australia greatly increased gun control, but it appears they only got a fraction of the guns away from private individuals, the rest just becoming illegal guns. There murder rate did go down since then but the US murder rate has gone down more, while we have been adding guns.
