The ethnicity of the Truck Driver has "0" bearing on the Crash. Lack of experience could well be a factor.

From what I see and having held a Class 1 license for 60 years and still hold a professional unrestricted drivers license today. Which allows me to operate any vehicle or truck trailer combination any where in Canada or the USA. Over that time have been witness to many such incidents. every one is sad and 99% are caused by human error.

The police cannot make an official statement till 100% of the evidence is in.
My belief from viewing the photo below is. There is ample room to see either way past the trees for oncoming traffic if the truck was pulled up and properly stopped at the sign. You can see the signs on either side of the intersection.

Either he never paid close enough attention to approaching traffic on Hwy. 35 or he only slowed rather than come to a full stop. It does not appear the driver was at high speed as the crash was not strung down the road.. It appeared to travel a truck length after the impact. The bus hit the trailer not the truck it'self.

Look at the photo Bus travel bottom toward parked vehicles Truck travel Right to left across Hwy. 35 Ample room to see past the trees if stopped. Plus there is an additional responsibility to keep watch both ways as the truck enters the intersection. And not proceed till it is all clear. The Bus had the right of way.

That is my opinion.

When they get the ECM diagnostics it will tell the tale. (Engine control Module) This unit records everything over the last 100 hrs. Brake Apps, Engine speed, the gear the transmission was in, speed of the vehicle, If the truck stopped at the sign, And much more. For some things it maintains a record right back to when the engine was installed in the unit. Can even tell when oil and filter was last changed. The evidence extracted from the ECM will stand up in any court of law . It is forensic data. Forensics don't lie.
