I'm not sure I've ever heard of it but maybe Neeka had a form of car sickness. It happens to people, so why not animals. It couldn't have been fear because her first car ride was when she was so young. I guess she felt more secure curled up on the floor.

Yes, the loss is so hard to overcome. After losing mine after 16 years I found that habits were hard to break. I would go to freshen her water and realize the bowls weren't there anymore. Other things that were daily routine and suddenly not necessary was difficult for me. There was an emptiness in the house. That's why I adopted fairly quickly. I'm glad I got a senior dog because they are so hard to adopt. I'm looking for another senior to give Harvey a playmate because he sure enjoys the company of other dogs...eventually. I'd love a puppy but not sure I'm up to the task. Besides I'm getting a bit old to have a puppy. So many older dogs are in foster care because their owners have passed away. I wouldn't want that to happen. But then, maybe I'll live as long as my Mom. Nah. No more puppies. Potty training, teething, chewing, deterring other destructive behavior...I'm past all that.

>>but we're gone so much, and for weeks at a time<<

I thought you once said you travel a lot in an RV. A dog would love that. Well, most dogs. Of course, if you take long vacations by other means to places that aren't pet friendly then boarding would be necessary and the great places are hard to find.

It's a lot to think about.
