The media have consistently lied about Trump, over-reported negative stories, and under-reported positive stories for the entire duration of Trump's political involvement. It has attacked him personally, promoted outright lies -- obvious lies -- and dramatically reduced the long-held standards in journalism in order to accommodate those desires.

It was so bad during the election the NYT had to apologize the day after the election for its horrible coverage.

So, I don't really know what you mean by "control." If anything, the media appear to be totally out of control, lacking the slightest SELF control and engaged in a free for all where truth has been totally abandoned. The number of stories in WaPo and NYT that turned out to be outright lies has to be at an all time high.
