People put out studies disputing the results and methodology of his studies, he (and some others have done the same for theirs). Its a politically charged issue where people on opposite sides tend to claim that the other side is not just wrong, but sloppy and negligent or even lieing.

In any case your replying to data that wasn't' from Lott (not that you'd ever let something like that from having you go on the attack about someone).

Lott would have had better controls on the data, this was just presenting more raw data unadjusted for demographics. But when it applies both between US states, between European countries, and world wide between countries it does at least show that gun control at best is rather questionable as a way to get any sizable improvements in murder rates.

Overall a study from Lott, properly adjusting for other variables would be better but the raw data has the advantage that at least you can't reasonably claim it has biased adjustments. Also one can do the same calculations yourself (while with a big complex study, unless your very skilled in the field, at best you can examine its general methodology for gross errors)
