going to war against a country is preferred by the country. It unifies their people behind their dictatorship.
You're right. But IRGC, QUDs, etc are unpopular with Iranians and they hate the Syrian, Yemen and Iraq adventures because it's unnecessarily keeping them dirt poor and receiving body bags. Mullahs are too corrupt to competently run public works and the drought is very badly managed as consequence.

Iranians kind of like the US and as long as US and allies keep pounding the mullahs' forces outside the country that's OK by most Iranians. Half the demos going on in country are against the foreign adventures.

Gotta remember the mullahs brought in Hezbollah types to attack the 09 demos in Tehran because security types were reluctant to beat Iranian heads.

And the mullahs don't trust the army. It's not necessary to go to war against Iran. Stuff being done right now is working.
