What a sad, sad situation. They can be wonderful dogs. One of the main reasons I'd like to get another dog is I like to hike a lot more than my husband. It would be nice to have a couple of big, loyal dogs to take along with me. I've trained every dog I've had to be under voice command, and hate leashes unless the environment warrants using one. I like the idea of getting an older dog. They're basically trained, or smart enough to understand commands and aren't as apt to react to overzealous hormones that course through puppy's veins. The one thing I hate about having dogs is having to take car of the poop. ;)
