No one can understand western literature (before 1970) if they are ignorant of the Bible.

Some time ago someone posted on SI an on-line questionnaire on the Bible, which I took. Turns out I scored higher than 90% of Christians who had taken it. I was able to answer the questions out of general cultural literacy, which I got in large part from western literature, never having read the Bible. The texts inform each other. Glad that I didn't have to expend time and energy slogging through the Bible to benefit from literature.
