Customers Benefit from Superior x2 Performance and a $50 Savings

ATLANTA, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardinal Technologies, Inc. today
announced recognition of the superior performance of its Cardinal Connecta(TM)
modems in industry trade magazine reviews of 56K modems using the x2(TM)
technology. The reviews noted Cardinal Connecta modems are priced $50 less
than its closest competitor, U.S. Robotics' Sportster 56K modem. The price
delta is reflected after taking into account Cardinal's $40 rebate on its 56K
and 33.6 kbps desktop modems as well as 3Com's rebate offer.
The December issue of Computer Shopper stated, "Cardinal Connecta 56K
Internal Fax Modem is practically a twin of the 3Com/U.S. Robotics Sportster
56K...But the Cardinal outperformed Sportster when transferring highly
compressible content and while dealing with 50 dB intermodulation distortion.
In fact, the scores with our highly compressible files imply that the Cardinal
should load a Web screen faster over relatively clean lines than the other
modems reviewed..." The review continued to state, "With this combination of
price, performance and software, it's hard to find a better x2 choice than the
Cardinal Connecta 56K Internal Fax Modem."
The Cardinal Connecta 56K modem also scored top billing in an article
entitled "x2 Finally Breaks the 50K Barrier" in the July issue of Windows
Sources. The article stated, "On our x2 download tests, the Connecta racked
up the fastest performance we've seen to date from an x2 product, just over
50 Kbps with compressed data. This is promising for x2 in general, because we
used a U.S. Robotics Total Control NETServer/8 I-modem as the back-end device,
and the Cardinal modem was able to turn in better results than our baseline
USR Sportster 56K."
In October, Windows Magazine noted the Cardinal Connecta modems'
"transmission rates were more stable than most, and it provided the best of
all the download times over the impaired line for our 1.5 MB file downloads."
"Cardinal targets the general home and SOHO consumer who doesn't want to
refinance the mortgage in order to benefit from the latest technology," said
Mike Rutledge, Product Line Manager, Cardinal Technologies. "These reviews
are a credit to the philosophy behind Cardinal products, selling superior
products at 'Wal-Mart' prices. We create quality products that are easy to
use and afford."
Cardinal is also noted for its tradition of performance-based and value-
priced product offerings and free-of-charge upgrades as technology evolves.
As a reflection of its customer service philosophy, Cardinal was one of the
first modem manufacturers to announce free upgrades to the 56K technology
standard once it is determined by the International Telecommunications Union
(ITU). All Cardinal Connecta 56K products will be upgradable with a simple
software download from the Cardinal Web site at cardtech.com.
Cardinal expects to be one of the first modem manufacturers offering the free
upgrade to the ITU standard once it is determined in early February.
Customers will find Cardinal Connecta modems at most computer retail
stores including Best Buy, Egghead, Computer City and CompUSA and through
direct mail PC catalogs such as MicroWarehouse and PC Connection.
In addition to delivering the latest modem speed, Connecta products
include a Cardinal Internet Solutions CD-ROM. This award-winning CD-ROM comes
bundled with several Internet-based software products. FamilyPC Magazine
recognized Cardinal's Internet Solutions CD-ROM with their exclusive "Top
Rated/Best Buy" award in the magazine's January 1997 issue.
