I don't think it is that clear cut, e.g., I would not credit Obama with the net change in the DOW since election day, and I would also credit Obama with the net change in the DOW since his first election day.

But we can agree to disagree on that.

As to balls and strikes, I just don't know how one does it with the economy. Obama inherited an economy that cratered by half within days of his election, leaving a very strong conclusion that the prospect of Obama's election precipitated it. Sure it was coming back. He didn't have to do a damned thing; Bush had already gotten the $700B in loans (essentially all of which were repaid). Where were the balls and strikes then?
