Well, Manafort’s case was in fact being handled by the US Atty in Virginia, but the case was stale, nothing had happened in literally years until Mueller decided to illegally take the investigation over.

I think the US Attorney was going to let the investigation die on the vine. No prosecutor lets a case hang on for as long as Manafort’s did. Evidence goes stale, memories fade, witnesses die or go outside the subpoena power, etc. A crime has to be investigated quickly and this one was clearly not. Why? Probably because it may not have been a very good case to begin with.

The Judge in Manafort’s case very slyly reminded Mueller’s team that his ruling might well apply to Cohen’s case.

Judge Ellis is sharp, he know that his ruling holding Mueller without jurisdiction could well apply to Cohen’s case, a disaster for Mueller, which is the main reason I think Mueller may well dismiss the case against Manafort.
