It is logically impossible for Manafort’s personal crimes, for which Mueller indicted him, not for election-related stuff, too be related in any way to a subsequent election for which Trump had not even declared his candidacy.

I haven't followed any of this. I don't even know what Manafort's charges are. That said, and in the abstract, I don't think it "logically impossible" to have uncovered unrelated crimes in the process of looking into the Russia activities of parties involved in the campaign. An investigator who identifies some individual's Russia connection during the campaign would scan for any Russia connection in the past or any transactions of the type identified in the established connection looking for patterns. He could stumble upon anything.

I know you have a taste for the complex, but this issue is very simple. Judge Ellis has captured it perfectly.

I wasn't challenging Judge Ellis. I was challenging your assertion that unrelated crimes that occurred pre-campaign and were uncovered in the course of investigating the Russia/election thing are none of Mueller's business. Like I said, it makes no sense to include the authority to pursue "any matters that arose" from the investigation if the intent were not matters unrelated in time as well as nature. "Any" would have to mean "unrelated." Otherwise, the statement would be redundant.

You may wish to believe...

I don't wish to believe anything other than that Mueller will identify whatever interference may have occurred so that we may wise up and take precautions.
