Dershowitz didn't say that the tactic was illegal. In this case, where Mueller lacks jurisdiction to prosecute Manafort, it is not only illegal but damned sleazy as he obviously knows precisely where the outer limits of his authority are located. He knowingly and intentionally walked right through those legal limits. Shame on him. That is a point, among others, that think is significantly pissing Judge Ellis off.
Like the Trump-Deranged, Mueller doesn't to care what kind of illegal low-life behavior he needs to engage in so long as he gets Trump.
Sad.
I've said it before, this is no longer about personalities or routine partisan politics, it is about the core principles regulating our republic.
Mueller, the DOJ, the FBI, the NSA, Clapper, Brennan, Yates, Lynch, the Ohrs, Strzok, Page, Baker, McCabe, Rosenstein, and a whole host of others including many at the DNC, CNN, Hillary and Obama, have tacitly or explicitly or simply via a common mindset taken a vow (create the infamous 'insurance policy') to take down Trump, regardless of the legality of the methods used might be. But the methods and the actors are slowly being exposed. And the electorate is watching, as the surge in Trump's popularity shows.
My guess is that this tacit or explicit conspiracy/mindset is going to hurt the left. Voters like an underdog, and Trump has been fighting a massive battle and doing a pretty good job of it while dealing with a bunch of very difficult problems. The voters are watching, and I sense that they are getting their fill of the witch hunt - many want this seriocomedy to end so that Trump can succeed or fail on his own merits without having the national business derailed by what increasingly appears like a bad faith prosecution.
Time will tell. |
