Eric,

The technique used by the hacker has to do with overflowing the IP stack of the server, making it look like the server is busy and no message can get in or out. I don't know if IP switching may have a similar security hole because it has almost the same architecture.

SI runs on a Windows NT server and Microsoft is trying to fix the hole in the OS. Windows NT does not seem to be that robust compared to Unix.
