I have an interesting (to me, at least) legal question.

I live in a building in the Philippines. The building units are all individually owned as in a condominium. Many years ago a property manager was hired to manage the property, run a restaurant on the property, and open a "hotel" operation using the empty units which are held by overseas owners. Some units are occupied year round by their resident owners, others are part of the hotel operation and the unit's owner comes occasionally on vacation, or some years not at all.

The hotel name is the same as the building name.

The building name and logo are on the building.

After a few years as property manager the property manager obtained a trademark copyright on the building name and logo.

Now the property manager has resigned, and they want to sell the trademark to the homeowner's association.
Is this trademark legal? Can a service provider trademark the name of their employer, then try to sell it to them when the service provider departs? Any idea?

Their view is they started with an empty building (which had a name and a logo) and they built the brand over the past ten years. They did a good job, and the hotel has an excellent brand. However, are they legally able to trademark the name and logo of my building which employed them for exactly the purpose of building a nice hotel?
