Large Corps like Walmart are faced with the same problem as Hospitals hiring Doctors when they set up computer operations. Especially true in retail. The people they need are much brighter and more expensive than the retail management they have.They can't handle paying 20 somethings more money than they make to run their operations and end up hiring mediocre people who will work for the kind of money they are used to paying people with their age and experience.

Bezos is a computer engineer and knew what was needed.
