Each window is a custom chart suite. Each chart suite has 4 time frames: day, day, week, month. Each time frame has 5 panes. Each pane has many data series. I like to document trades and studies, so each pane can have multiple vertical lines, text notes, trendlines, etc. So it's a lot of data being plotted. Instead of leaving the windows open, I close them when I finish with them, so actually I have been holding the open number of windows to no more than 3 or 4 usually, and occasionally as many as 5. Since I started this procedure about two weeks ago, I have had no crashes. I haven't run tests to see what the maximum number of open windows is before I start having crashes.
Crashes are a real problem for me because I lose all the lines and notes since the last save.
Helpful hint: If I want to mark a date in each pane with a vertical line, I can copy and paste the vertical line, even between time frames instead of going back and forth to the vertical line tool. For example a vertical line at 4/24/18 in a daily time frame can be pasted to another pane in the daily time frame or to a pane in the wkly or monthly time frame. I copy the vertical line, select a data series in the target pane, and paste. Of course if the date doesn't exist in the weekly, it will paste to the next available date. In this case 4/27/18 in the weekly time frame, and so forth for the monthly time frame. This trick doesn't work for all tools. The text tool for example can't be pasted between panes or time frames. When pasted the text tool lies on top the copied text, and can only be dragged in the same pane. Copy and paste between panes or time frames works with horizontal lines and trend lines; however, if the end points of the trendline are outside the pane, it won't paste or if the horizontal line is outside the pane it won't paste, either. If I remember correctly, I can also paste time series like moving average, but it appears in a new pane, and has to be dragged to the desired pane, |
