Trump has made the US stronger. Any junior business person understands that marginal pricing is the way to maximize revenues. In the same way, bilateral deals to maximize the value for Americans is almost always superior for a country like the US, whose corporations are world class and have significant competitive advantages. When we sign up to things like TPP, we are agreeing to lowest common denominator solutions that blunt our competitive edge. That might not impact us in the short term, but in the long term, we are going to be in the fight of our economic lives with China. We are going to need all the advantages we can get. In case you haven't noticed, they are outplaying us economically and they are doing it with hundreds of bilateral deals, hammering out arrangements that benefit China according to their strategic plans. Meanwhile, over the last 30 years, we've been busy lifting everyone else up through our largess and through our world policing. It's time to get very selfish and think about how to keep America strong. It is only if we are economically strong that we can keep the worst actors, like China, in check.
If you think a dominant China economically is good for the world, then you are very mistaken. China is a Communist Dictatorship and they are already using their economic muscle to impose their world views on other countries and their companies. They will roll back freedoms and rights that our country has fought many wars internal and external to secure. You need to wake up and stop being so naive. We simply cannot give up this fight without firing a shot. TPP and other deals like that are exactly that....it's giving up our right to fight for Americans and our beliefs, and really, all the countries, including Europe who have been living under our aegis and umbrella.
We've trained the world to feel entitled to American wealth and protection. Now that we are pulling back on that a bit to focus more on our own foundational needs, they are all getting quite upset. Entitlement and dependency is like that. Once given, it's hard to take it back, which is why Socialism is such a cancer. But if we are to survive along with our values, then we have to be strong economically and militarily. China will become dominant, but we have to always be strong enough that they always know, we cannot be overcome and if they challenge us, we're strong enough to inflict equal damage, economically or militarily. It may come to that, so we'd better prepare for the worst and hope for the best. |
