| Wow you should be given some intellectual property rights to that. when did the optical fiber become the main carriers for the under sea intercontinental connections? or is it still copper, with only the isp to local residences using optical fibers? in 1991 when i took sabbatical leave to a foreign country i used bitnet to email communicate with my people, so the physical infrastructure was available for emails. the internet as we know it was still not available because HTML was not yet available for public use. shortly after, with HTML, web browsers, and newly formed internet and isp companies, the use of internet by public just exploded. we were able to read newspapers from all over the world, instantly. this was the so called information revolution, buzz word then was information economy. it was easy to see that the internet will revolutionize the information flow. it was not so easy to see, back then, that the unregulated information flow/manipulation, purely driven by human greed to make money will create profound problems. the 20c laws were unable to foresee and properly regulate the harmful effects of internet/social media for the greater public good. the damage is already profound. the question is how a sustainable way and effective rules can be put in before too long, to make internet a proper public tool, to stop it from being a tool for disrupting or even destroying the social fabric of countries. |
