The internet was wonderful before Al Gore "invented it."

I remember telling anyone who'd listen that it would go to hell once AOHELL let the masses onto it since that would open nerds to scammers!

It used to be you could trust buying and selling stuff as most who used it were technology geeks.

As a reward for that product I told you about, my boss gave me an HP150 computer with a printer to use at home in 1984. He made me wait for the 10MB hard drive to be released as I'd get twice as much storage for the same price. The excuse was I could check my SPICE jobs from home but we all knew it was to have debates on the USENET with internal HP groups as well as great debates with groups like rec.audio.highend. That was about $3,000 which was a nice, tax free bonus for 1984!

It was pretty slow in the late 1970s but picked up speed in the 1980s where a phone modem could get text through at a pretty good rate.

I still have a few friends I met on USENET...

Heck I even met some nice, smart women back in the day and bought a house with one from ba.rec.singles and nearly got married. (BA was for Bay Area)
