I have a tendency to be direct & to the point. I would agree
that:
1) College professors live in a thoeretical world that bears
virtually no resemblance to real life.

2) The key to retaining people is,,,, treating them like people.

That may sound simple, but it really is. Being the IS specialist at our firm (by default), I find it amazing what some people think a
computer <or IS director, to many they are interchangable), can do.

IMO, all too often the IS people are secluded in their own little
bunker. No comradre', no feeling of belonging, and certainly no appreciation. I stay in my job because I'm part of the company;
not just the geek in the closet that gets called out when a PC or
LAN crashes. (I'm not saying I'm not a geek, I'm just saying I'm not treated like one. <g>)
