I think it is far simpler than most think.

When your parents and teachers rant and rave at others over politics and how the country is a mess because their party isn't in control or they are not getting their way on this or that issue, the kids lose optimism.

IF adults started acting like adults again and treating those they don't agree with with proper respect, I believe things would improve.
