A women friend of mine has a practice helping distraught kids... her office is blocks from the train tracks many Palo Alto kids have killed themselves at. She used to complain a ton about losing the election online and stopped when I asked the same question. Maybe there is something to it.

As for kids... besides walking through 2 miles of snow to get to school.... we had earthquake and nuclear bomb drills. My high school was shut down twice with race riots. A friend (on my tennis team) was stabbed in front of me in the hallway at school... I got jumped by a gang banger who was on my soccer team with a bunch of his buddies... luckily I was smart, hit him as hard as I could with my shoulder as soon as I saw what was happening, ran and got away. My friends on the football team wanted to start a third riot to get even but I said let it go. This guy made a 12 step apology to me just a few years ago... amazing. For me, it was all incentive to work hard and get the hell out but I nearly killed myself drinking to handle the stress until I quit.

Anyway, life has always been tough but if parents don't give their kids hope and teach respect for things like the president and other adults... why shouldn't kids get depressed?

Or maybe it is the glorification of violence via video games, music, movies, etc.
