Snapdragon 1000: Qualcomm will probably Intel on mobile PCs to the leatherSource: Qualcomm
Microsoft and the chip manufacturer Qualcomm press in terms of Windows 10 on ARM well on the tube. This applies both to the development speed and to the performance, since with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000, probably by the end of 2018 or beginning of 2019, a new, even stronger processor for ARM-based devices with Windows 10 will be introduced.

Qualcomm is already working on a kind of successor to the soon-to-be-awaited Snapdragon 850 , which appears to be used exclusively in Windows 10 ARM devices, according to documents available from WinFuture and a few entries in various job portals such as LinkedIn . Obviously you are aiming for a strong performance increase.
Specific details on the clock rates and core number of the chip currently referred to as Snapragon 1000 are not yet available. In fact, the work began but probably last year. Apparently, the new chip is to serve by an increase in performance to advance ARM CPUs from Qualcomm in power regions, in which one can compete with the still superior Intel Core processors.

Thus, the information available to us shows that Qualcomm wants to enable a surprisingly high power loss in a device developed in cooperation with a large PC manufacturer. There is talk of a TDP (Thermal Design Power, power dissipation) of 6.5 watts - which should apply only to the Snapdragon 1000 alone.

So far, the maximum power dissipation of the current Snapdragon 845, including its graphics unit, is about five watts unconfirmed, so an increase to 6.5 watts on the Snapdragon 1000 with the CPU limitation suggests that you either use a higher number of cores or a significant increase in processor performance.

Power loss increases to the level of stronger x86 CPUsLooking now at the power dissipation of Intel's current Core Series processors, the convergence between ARM and x86 becomes more and more apparent. An Intel Core Y-SoC 7th Generation (Intel Core i7-7y75) comes according to Intel with its two cores and four threats on a power loss of up to seven watts.

With 6.5 watts TDP, the Snapdragon 1000 would be at least in this regard in a similar region on the move and on the level of an ultra-low-power chips from Intel. Of course, the Intel Core U, S and H SoCs that work with significantly higher TDPs are not comparable, but they also almost always have to be actively cooled.

According to our information, the Taiwanese manufacturer ASUS wants to launch a device equipped with the Snapdragon 1000 on the market as the first supplier. It has been developed since the beginning of 2018 in direct cooperation with Qualcomm and is codenamed ASUS "Primus". The internal timetable envisages that the development of the platform should be completed by the autumn of 2018. After that, it will probably take a few months until a possible finished product comes on the market.

How exactly the ASUS "Primus" should look is currently still completely unclear. If one goes after the first details of the Snapdragon 1000, it might be a kind of notebook, larger tablet or a convertible. Of course, due to the early nature of the project, there are still some things to change, both in terms of the specifications and usage of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 and in terms of the name ultimately used for marketing. Also a change of the strategy as well as a complete attitude of the project is possible at any time.
