They could buy it, but the only value would be for obtaining the legal rights to the software that they stole from AMSC..
But I wonder if the Feds would prevent it since they have been working on Navy projects, as well as the Power Grid angle.. Those units would have to be "stripped" out..
In fact, the Superconductive side would have to be stripped out as well, IMO..
And Inox contracts? I doubt they would trust Chinese ownership, or buy software from them.. In fact, Inox might try a counter offer, but I doubt they have the financing for anything respectable.
So just buying the Windtec section would have to be pricey, because it takes the remainder of AMSC out of the Wind Turbine business altogether.. But then AMSC would have the capital, conceivably, to focus on US grid, and defense contracts, as well as ramp up Superconductive product offerings.
And it couldn't happen without the BOD setting the price of the Windtec buyout (and I think it would be rather pricey)..
Perhaps that's why AMSC management is so quiet these past few weeks?
If any of these scenarios we've pondered play out, there's no doubt that the stock price will dramatically increase.
But that said, if the Trump administration fails to take the necessary actions in enforcing this case against Sinovel, it will likely be used as an example of a Chinese "win" in the ongoing trade dispute.. I can see so many ways that such a failure to act would be turned against the Trump administration.
