6/1/2018 Contest update
You can’t blame me for “gNASHing” my teeth for missing out on both of the week’s two huge portfolio winners, MDGL and VKTX. Unsurprisingly, however, our Contest leader as well as our 2017 Contest champ, KMASTR’s portfolio, did have a nosh of NASH with VKTX. I might add, more or less randomly, I had put one of KMASTR’s portfolio picks, OTIC, in my own portfolio. Also, unsurprisingly, it’s KMASTR’s biggest loser.
Meanwhile, Contest portfolios overall had a boffo week and, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 18.66% YTD (vs. up 12.05% YTD a week ago). Broader indexes also performed admirably, with the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) up 2.82% YTD (vs. up .68% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) up 13.98% YTD (vs. up 9.69% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) up 9.43% YTD (vs. up 7.68% YTD a week ago).
Last week, KMASTR’s portfolio was rocketed into first place by ARQL. This week, as noted above, a VKTX booster rocket provided a second surge, with KMASTR’s portfolio now in first place with a mouth watering 63.52% YTD gain. ALIAS’s portfolio, up 56.61% YTD, held on to second place, while another VKTX holder, MARKETH’s portfolio, up 55.53% YTD, moved up to third place.
At Friday's close, 54 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 51 beating the NBI and 32 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 11.36% and a median YTD gain of 1.49%, with 119 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing first June weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
