HBO host Bill Maher dragged Republicans on Friday night for becoming the party of conspiracy theories instead of sticking to facts.

Republicans have been going further and further down the rabbit hole for years now. Rather than accept basic facts and keep the kooks on the fringes where they belong, the inmates officially took control of the asylum when President Donald Trump won the 2016 election.

Ever since he took office, Trump has been telling lies every day, especially in his effort to undermine the Russia investigation.

And now the GOP not only caters to those who spout conspiracies, they even spew them from the floor of Congress and the Oval Office.

Clearly, Republicans live in a different reality, and Maher took them to the woodshed for it during his “New Rules” segment.

Conspiracies are “the new ideology of the Republican Party,” Maher began.

“Conspiracy theorists used to be ‘crazy,’ now they’re called ‘Senator.’ It used to be an unwritten rule of both parties that you can’t just make sh*t up; the old ‘You’re entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts’ thing. But that was before Republicans discovered, ‘Yes, yes you can just make sh*t up.’ You can have your own facts. In fact, we just pulled a fresh batch out of the oven. And by the ‘oven,’ I mean our ass.”

“And now, Republicans, you’re the Alex Jones party,” Maher continued after noting that Jones is just the craziest version of conservative conspiracists like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. “There is literally nothing too stupid or too conspiratorial that you will not swallow. Hillary running a child sex ring out of a pizza parlor? Sounds about right. Obama‘s birth certificate? Fake! Jade Helm? Absolutely.”

“The crazier it gets, the more they like it,” he said. “That’s their jam! They believe anything. So we could stop sending reporters to diners now to figure them out. They’re not there for the breakfast, they literally think there are clouds in the coffee.”

This isn’t about ideology anymore,” Maher pointed out, explaining that Trump didn’t study conservativism by “studying Buckley and Reagan.”

“And his only experience with Goldwater was in a Russian hotel room,” Maher quipped.

Maher concluded by calling out Republicans for eroding American trust in our institutions and called for sane people to outvote insane people in every election.

Here’s the video via YouTube.

Maher is right. Americans who believe in facts and evidence and reason need to take our country back. We need to make America smart again.
