As to the scientific connection, there's a lot of science we don't understand. The article I referenced addressed science not as scientific knowledge but as a scientific approach, a reasoned approach as opposed to religion, which is a gut thing, limbic brain and all that. Long ago I identified three elements in my temperament that are utterly incompatible with religious belief. One of them is simply a rational proclivity. I never liked my gut and never developed it. It has long since atrophied.
