6/8/2018 Contest update
This week, according to a Federal Reserve report, U.S. household net worth hit a record $100 trillion. Assuming real life portfolios of Biotech Contest participants closely match their Contest picks, for a good number of us our share of those trillions has been growing nicely.
To wit, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 22.03% YTD (vs. up 18.66% YTD a week ago), doing significantly better than the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) up 3.20% YTD (vs. up 2.82% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), up 13.57% YTD (vs. up 13.98% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC), up 10.75% YTD (vs. up 9.43% YTD a week ago).
KMASTR’s portfolio, up 67.33% YTD, remains our Contest leader, with ALIAS’s portfolio, up 62.76% YTD and MARKETH’s portfolio, up 60.93% YTD, holding on to second and third place.
At Friday's close, 54 of the 62 Contest portfolios were still in the green, with 50 beating the NBI and a remarkable 38 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 12.52% and a median YTD loss of -1.30%, with 113 showing a gain for the year. The substantial difference between the average and median YTD performance reflects huge gains by a few of the Contest portfolio picks, with 3 more than tripling (ARQL, MDGL, SESN) and 15 more than doubling.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: The controversial MON buyout by Bayer at $128 finally closed on 6/6. MON was only held in DEWDIL’s portfolio.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and fun weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
