Because there have to be exceptions. The best trade for everyone is a negotiated trade pact that recognizes each countries needs for exceptions and make them balance out.

Christ! Achieving Fair Trade is very complicated, but you and Trump do not do complicated. You have simple answers to complex problems and they are usually wrong.

The average trade tariff for the G7 is 1.6%, but it is a give and take.

Interestingly Canada is the exception with only .08%. The country Trump attacked.

For sure.

Why don't we get rid of all of them and simply have free markets? That is, after all, what Trump is pursuing.

We are in a world where markets are freer than before. Why should we be stuck with these silly tariffs?
