Ontario’s premier-elect emphatically says when it comes to a trade war between Trump and Trudeau he knows exactly where he stands.

“When it comes to the trade deal south of border we stand shoulder to shoulder with the prime minister and our federal counterparts,” Ford said as he entered the Whitney Block at Queen’s Park for his first meeting with his transition team since Thursday’s election landslide.

The PC leader who will take over as premier June 29th said “all provinces should” support Trudeau in this battle.

Ford stands with Trudeau in Trump trade dispute

It’s true Ontario’s next premier has expressed his like and respect for President Donald Trump in the past.

But this time, and on the issue of trade, Doug Ford is 100 per cent with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

And it comes at a time when Trudeau’s in need of some help as the American leadership is publicly bashing him hard.

Commenting on free trade negotiations, the American president Saturday hit the Canadian leader mercilessly in a series of tweets.

Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!

PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!

Trump in another tweet called Trudeau “meek and mild” as well as “very dishonest and weak.”

Saying they were upset Trudeau used the word “insulting” to complain about American tariffs, Trump’s adviser on trade Peter Navarro told FOX News “there’s a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door.”

None of it swayed Ford.

Ford also tweeted in standing “shoulder to shoulder with the prime minister and people of Canada” he said “my number one goal is to protect jobs in Ontario, starting with my unwavering support for our steel and aluminium workers.”

Ford told the Toronto Sun that when it comes to trade talks with Americans he and his team will “consult” with “our federal counterparts” on the appropriate moves. He said for Ontario it’s not about politics much as it is employment.

“I will fight hard to make sure every single job is protected here in Ontario — especially aluminium and steel workers.”

And Ford said he will do it standing with Prime Minister Trudeau.
