I would not underestimate the power of speculation. There is great demand for US Treasuries coming from Europe which is helping to offset QT somewhat. And there is something else to consider here. If Republicans maintain solid control in the House and pick up some seats in the Senate, which is likely, as there is about 27 Democrats running for reelection in November, there will be more tax cuts and an infrastructure spending plan to push stocks higher and higher. Sure, that means even more debt and a bigger decline when the next recession arrives. And I do think this scenario is likely given the fact that the Democrats have not presented an alternative unified policy that can defeat Trump or the Republicans.
