I guess you've noticed that GDL have postponed their annual meeting until the last week of the month because of the ongoing effects of the ice storm. Talking of the ice storm, I hate to sound mercenary, but it should prove to be quite the boon for GDL. I hear that Quebec has had to replace something like 26,000 utility poles, ordering them from as far away as BC. As GDL is a local source for poles, I'm guessing that they've had their inventories completely depleted. This situation should also benefit other companies such as Stella Jones and Matco. Stella Jones is another Quebec source of utility poles. (I think I mentioned to you earlier that I'd taken a small position in SJ, but my broker messed up my order. I missed out on a 33% increase.) Matco (mco.b) is a building supplies retailer and should see some extra business from repairs. (I do have a position in Matco.) Goodfellow is probably the most sound and most geographically diversified of the three. Mike
