Well, Thomas, perhaps you ate a lot of pizza with pepperoni and green peppers too close to bedtime? That always does it for me in the sense of causing very strange dreams!!!
But seriously, there are myriad interpretations of this dream; in my humble opinion what YOU finally decide it means is probably what it signifies for you. There may be people reading this who have some actual education in analyzing dreams(or at least a book about them)--we will see if they pipe up or something. In the meantime, and in the sense of fun, not serious dream analysis, I'll have a minor go of it.
First, to me you and your wife in bed might symbolize comfort and security and warmth. Then you are assaulted with something very foreign, representing a threat to all of those qualities you have in your life. The big U's could represent the UNKNOWN, or Uh Oh!!! in the sense of big changes coming, like in the worth of your portfolio. The fact that they are purple, a regal color, and heavily jeweled, sounds good, but it isn't you who are holding the jewels, but foreign women, who may continue to tempt you even though you are becoming aware of just how intense all this is. (Doesn't purple represent something specific in dream analysis? Could someone look it up and post, please?)
The fact that the man is not only very violent and scary, growing a foot while he is threatening you, and is bigger than you are for starters, could represent your growing anxieties about this market. You are being chivalrous, protective of the woman he is harming, but in his culture he owns her, and can do anything he wants. This might be symbolic of the loss of control a lot of us are feeling as the East, the Orient and Jakarta Indonesia crumble taking the value of our securities with them, because they play by different rules there. The differences in cultural understandings--or the Yakuza, other protection rackets, less than full disclosure, rotten, hidden loans, well-cooked books and scary collapses of all kinds--are certainly very threatening! In jumping up to confront him, you are also leaving the security of your wife and your comfy familiar Western bed.
Good move waking up as he was about to chop your head off (totally ruin you). A foot shorter at the top is going to be a metaphor for a lot of portolios very soon, I fear!!!
