Good to see that you're still around and kickin'...

I also have given up on Value Line, not because there's anything wrong with them. I still think that they're still the most valuable subscription service that an investor can have.

In my situation, my wife and I have aged (surprise, surprise). My wife has absolutely zero interest in investing or managing anything to do with our long term finances. I was forced to face the possibility that if anything happened to me, she would be stuck with long term stock investments, dividends, mutual funds and cash vehicles where she had no idea of when to buy, when to sell, when to overweight or underweight any asset or sector or industry or anything else where she'd need more than just a passing interest in the process. So, we hunted for a professional money management team, found someone we could trust and believe in, and he/they were local. We've been with them for what seems now like forever, and we're extremely pleased with the results. We opted for (mostly annuity) contracts that had guarantees on what would be paid out when everything came to fruition. We're almost there now with receiving payouts from 100% of the various investments, and we're so far ahead of the minimum guarantees that it's a no-brainer that we're pretty safe from any type of market fluctuations. We "withdrew" monies along the way when the minimum guarantees were no longer a concern and reinvested them in other guaranteed contracts, still under the umbrella protection of the original contract so that there were no tax implications; everything was tax deferred then. Now that we're getting the payouts, everything is fully taxable. We have income with guarantees, and we can control our spending so that we can take some of the money and reinvest it in other vehicles with the aim that we can offset any negatives from inflation without denting our lifestyle. It has worked out well for us and I have the knowledge that should anything happen to me, my wife is well taken care of...

Best wishes for you and yours...

EK!!!
