Mark Hutnick sez: one (optimistic) factor is the the 14 and 38 week cycles in the XAU. Both were to bottom around the end of Dec'97 and Jan'98 and begin an upward turned until May'98. I've looked back at the past3-4 years 14 and 38 week cycles and I would summize that there is a strong correlation with the data that makes believe that we are now at the beginning of these cycles.
