I think that there have been many more attempts than have been reported, mostly due to the Secret Service not wanting to encourage others or stir the pot even more. No question that it would (and should) be difficult, but the public availability of .50 cal accurate long range sniper rifles seems to me to make it much more possible. They're not that tough to master too, given the internet and wide availability of gun ranges. Maybe gun ranges should be illegal... /sarc Hate and "blame" on both sides for at least a decade also seems to be at an all time high during my life. YMMV...
